The Walls and Open Walls

Content policy.

Every work is checked against this policy by a person before it goes live, and again if someone reports it.

This policy covers every work on The Walls: curated, Resident Artist and Open Walls. Every work is checked against it before it goes live, and again if someone reports it.

Welcome

  • Your own original work, in any medium, as long as you hold all the rights to sell prints of it.
  • Artistic nudity, rated Mature. It is blurred in grids until someone chooses to see it.
  • Work made with AI tools, as long as you declare it when you submit the work and the result is yours to sell. Buyers see the label.

Not allowed

  • Sexually explicit work.
  • Anyone else's artwork or photographs, in whole or in part, without written permission. That includes traced, filtered, upscaled or lightly edited copies, and copyminting (minting or listing someone else's work as your own).
  • Hiding that AI was used, for example by removing the file's AI tags or declaring no AI when it was used.
  • Characters, logos, brands or trademarks you do not own, and fan art of them.
  • A real person's likeness without their permission.
  • Hateful, harassing or violent content, or content that praises violence against people.
  • Anything illegal, or anything that shows or encourages harm to children.

What happens if a work breaks it

We refuse a work with a reason, or ask for a change. A live work that breaks the policy is taken down. A work taken down for copyright or trademark infringement is a strike on the artist's account, and repeated strikes suspend the account. An artist found submitting copied work is removed from The Walls. See copyright and takedowns.

How we enforce it

  • A person reviews every work before it goes live.
  • Automated checks look for the same image already on the site or taken down before. An AI model and a reverse image search look for problems and for the picture elsewhere on the web. We also read the file's own metadata for AI tags and Content Credentials and compare them with what the artist declared. These checks advise; a person decides.
  • Anyone can send a notice about a live work. A person decides each one and tells the sender the outcome.
  • When we refuse or remove a work, or suspend an account, the artist gets a statement of reasons: what we did, why, and how to challenge it.
  • Every decision can be appealed for 6 months, free, and a person looks at it again.
  • Removals for copyright or trademark infringement are strikes. Too many strikes and the account is suspended. Deliberate copying means removal from The Walls at once.

More detail is in our terms and on how strikes work. Disagree with a decision? Appeal it.
